WHO is A-Just Housing Corp?

A-Just Housing Corp is an Edmonton based company that is incorporated in the Province of Alberta.  Dale Alton, A-Just Housing Corp’s owner has been working with designer Keith Dewey and others to develop the plans for prefabricated affordable housing using shipping containers as the building blocks.

A-Just Housing Corp is a company dedicated to bringing Social, Cultural, Environmental and Economic value into every project undertaken.

A-Just Housing Corp incorporates professionals, advocates and interested persons from various business, public and educational sectors, to collaborate on the development of an automated prefabrication process to create LUTEs (Living Units To Enjoy). Some of these interested parties are: Stantec, the Alberta Chapter of the Canadian Green Building Council, Ocean Trailers, All Weather Windows and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. We have also included various levels of government in the discussions concerning the issue of their role in facilitating affordable housing for Canadians.

We anticipate working with the NAIT Shell Manufacturing Centre in developing an automated prefabrication system. We can benefit the community’s vocational development by including persons requiring adaptive support to enhance their inclusion and productivity in the community.

A-Just Housing Corp believes in the development of urban landscapes that incorporate a community philosophy and values human space over vehicle space.  A-Just Housing Corp recognizes the importance of community diversity and inclusiveness, while supporting the continued development of human assets and commercial activity, honouring our stewardship of the environment.

WHAT is A-Just Housing Corp. doing?

A-Just Housing Corp is creating the ability to be a manufacturer of quality prefabricated affordable housing.  We will use shipping containers and manufacture 100 housing units per month, which are safe, green and affordable.

A-Just Housing Corp will act as a sales broker and contracted consultant to coordinate the development of various modaltecture initiatives looking to provide safe, green and affordable housing using Modaltecture – (A use of Intermodal containers with the application of professional architecture to create living spaces that are both functional and attractive).

A-Just Housing Corp is striving to provide affordable housing that is sustainable over time by using green technology and energy saving strategies.  High density, high quality living spaces create a community rich in diversity and support a better use of our community's assets.  We create neighbourhoods one block at a time.

Presently, over 4,000,000 shipping containers in North America are being stored, managed and administered at a cost of millions of dollars a year to the shipping companies due to the balance of trade between China and North America.  We plan to recycle and re-purpose ISO shipping containers.

A-Just Housing Corp is encouraging government to take some responsibility for developing this affordable housing option by partnering (in the form of grants or soft loans).  The development of a production-manufacturing site here in Canada will allow us to meet some of our own affordable housing needs.

WHY is A-Just Housing Corp. doing this?

A-Just Housing recognizes that change, simplicity, and fairness are important factors in the development of a revolutionary new residential technology that can benefit Canadians.  We recognize our responsibility for public good and wish to profitably participate in creating affordable housing options.

A-Just Housing Corp recognizes the present and apparent need to provide housing that is safe, green and affordable.  Rising housing costs have created a crisis for the working poor, people on fixed income, single moms, immigrant workers and many others.  The cost of moving out on your own or developing equity in real estate is beyond the means of many young Canadians.

The Modaltecture industry is so young that we see ourselves as a collaboration of providers to support green building practices based with a commitment to creating quality living spaces that are affordable for people.  We believe that persons who are homeless and hard to house need housing first to stabilize their lives.

A-Just Housing Corp believes that young people and students will find the Modaltecture idea to be very cool, both in appearance and because of the many environmental and economic benefits it provides.  A-Just Housing Corp encourages people to let us know their comments and ideas concerning affordable housing using ISO containers.

WHEN will this all happen?

We are working as sales brokers to more than one supplier of Modaltecture at this time and are looking to firm contracts with them in the near future. This will be dependent on them being able to meet all building and regulatory requirements.

We are talking to companies in BC, Florida, Washington and The Netherlands. We anticipate that there development of a body of Modaltecture providers In North America in the coming year. They will come together to develop the industry so that it can grow and provide safe green Modaltecture housing across North America.

We are looking to the completion of the prefab manufacture development in 2 years or possibly sooner, if we are able to attract partners willing to work on concurrent development of the automated prefab process.  We predict being able to license the prefab Modaltecture process with all the necessary training manuals and technical documentation in 2-3years.
